THE NEWS BUNDLE: Joss Whedon Says 'Dr. Horrible 2' Will Be Next Project

2008 brought us the breakout hit Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, which gained plenty of attention from critics and fans. There's often been talk of a sequel coming forward, but there hasn't really been the time, with Joss Whedon writing/directing The Avengers, and Neil Patrick Harris working on television, along with Nathan Fillion. Now, Whedon has said this next hiatus will be the perfect time to get a sequel done.

At a SXSW panel, when asked about Dr. Horrible 2, Whedon said after The Avengers, the sequel to the internet hit will be next. "We plan to be working on it this summer," he said. Previous updated have had quite a few songs ready, with the cast involved as well, but nothing concrete coming yet.

It's unclear if he means that actual filming will start this summer, or if he'll just continue to work on the songs and script with Jed Whedon, Zack Whedon, and Maurissa Tancharoen. If it is filmed this summer, we're looking at a released for sometime later this year. If it's simply work on the writing, there's a good chance we won't see the second Dr. Horrible adventure until sometime next year.

The sequel has always had a stop-and-go mentality. The complication of schedules certainly doesn't help, and Whedon has been incredibly busy. Between founding his own production company, helming Dollhouse, Much Ado About Nothing, The Avengers, In Your Eyes, co-writing The Cabin in The Woods, and more, it seems like Joss has been filling time in the four years since Dr. Horrible sang it's tune.

But, what do you think? Will we see Dr. Horrible 2 by the end of this year, or is that simply a pipe dream? Let us know either in the comments below, or tweet us @FilmThrasher on Twitter!
