Taylor Lautner has tried branching away from Twilight recently with last fall's Abduction, but it was met with critical panning everywhere. So, while his last turn as a shirtless werewolf will come at the end of this year, Lautner is trying to still expand his career past the character. Now, as Adam Sandler nears his first ever sequel with Grown Ups 2, it seems Lautner is ready to go from sulking supernatural role to cracking jokes.
THR reports that the actor is in negotiations to join Sandler's second film. This would place Lautner as the second new character to join the movie, as Project X star Oliver Cooper joined last week as a role with a "frat boy" personality. Unlike Cooper's casting announcement, Lautner's role is undescribed, leaving us to the mystery of just what his character's motive will be.
But, it's said that his character will indeed go toe to toe with Sandler, making us add to our own loose speculation that the child-like-adults will be trying to relive their college years in some capacity. With this role of antagonist, Cooper's character will likely be at the right hand of Lautner.
Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, Rob Schneider, Maya Rudolph and Salma Hayek are all expected to return, but none have officially signed to the film just yet . Dennis Dugan will return as the director, while Sony Pictures has already set a release date for the film. Production is scheduled to begin this summer, though it's unclear if there will be any delays due to the cast not being signed.
Grown Ups 2 is scheduled to hit theaters on July 12th, 2013.
