In its run so far, Fringe fans have been used to some multi-week stories. While most episodes center on one particular case, there are times such as in season finales where the story at hand will be ongoing for a couple or even a few episodes. With the fan-favorite sci-fi hit headed off the air following its fifth and final season, it's unclear just what the ending might be for the Fringe Team as they head towards a future-filled time jump to face The Observers.

Now with the Saturn Awards this past week, J.H. Wyman (director, writer, and showrunner) has spoken out and revealed that fans can expect one massive nearly month-long series finale as the cult smash bids farewell.

Talking with Collider, Wyman was asked if the finale would be any longer than just an hour. "Well, the way I'm looking at it...the last three episodes are serving a continuum," Wyman replied. "It's basically a three hour [finale], they're just not on the same night. A lot of the story wraps up in three episodes at the end."

Fringe's final year will only be 13 episodes long, and is set to finish up in January 2013. This season continues the events of last season's episode "Letters of Transit", which unveiled that in 2015 after The Observers were no longer content with simply watching history they decided to overtake society.

The Fringe Team sealed themselves in amber and were rediscovered in 2036 by a group of FBI agents, one of which were Peter and Olivia's grown up daughter Etta. It's this future where the final season will take place and focus on the attempt to stop The Observers from making the Earth eventually unhabitable in the far-off future.

At this year's Saturn Awards the series won Best Network Television Series and Best Actress on Television (Anna Torv), which marks the show's first Saturn awards since 2010. In its four year run Fringe has only received official accolades from the Saturn Awards, winning seven total.

Fringe returns on Friday September 28th at 9PM on FOX, with a premiere that Wyman wrote himself titled "Transilience Thought Unifier Model-11".
