The cast for the upcoming remake of the sci-fi hit Robocop has already been quite impressive. With some big names set for the various characters, principal photography is not too far off in the distance and with it comes more casting updates as the window gets smaller and smaller. While Comic-Con didn't reveal too much for the high-profile redux, anticipation keeps building with each new actor cast. And now, two new additions to the cast continue the successful stream of incredible talent.
Deadline reports that Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen) has joined the cast as Maddox who will be responsible of giving military training to the titular hero. Meanwhile, actor Jay Baruchel is said to be circling another role in the film that has yet to be determined. There are no details on Baruchel's possible character so far, but it's expected to be revealed as information develops.
With the cast of Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson, Abbie Cornish, and Hugh Laurie all attached to star, Kinnaman will play the Alex Murphy described above, while Oldman will play the character of Norton, the conflicted scientist who creates the cyborg and wants Murphy to reconnect with his humanity but at the same time has to meet the needs of the corporation for which he is employed.
Jackson will be playing the role of Pat Novak, simply described as "a charismatic TV mogul and a powerful force in the Robocop world". Cornish will play Murphy's wife who she believes is now a widow following Murphy's accident. Laurie is set to play the evil and ultra-rich CEO of Omnicorp, acting as a corporate antagonist figure.
Directed by Jose Padilha with a script from Josh Zetumer, production on Robocop is scheduled to start in the next couple months. The film is currently set for release on August 9th, 2013.
