THE NEWS BUNDLE: First Promotional Photo for 'Doctor Who' Series Opener Is Jaw-Dropping

After nearly eight months away since the Christmas reunion between our Tardis Trio, Doctor Who finally returns at the end of the month with the Series 7 premiere here in the States on BBC America and across the pond on BBC. What lies ahead is a heartbreaking farewell as The Doctor will be switching companions and bidding a fond farewell to Amy Pond and Rory Williams. But while we'll have a few more adventures with The Girl Who Waited, what will we be getting for being so patient? Today BBC has unveiled the first promotional image for the premiere, and to say it's astonishing is an understatement.

Called "Asylum of the Daleks", the promotional image features a rare sight as we see The Doctor actually bloody with absolutely no sign of Rory as well. Instead, The Doctor is carrying a seemingly lifeless Amy as he's surrounded by perhaps the most iconic villains of the entire sci-fi franchise: The Daleks.

The episode's plot details are currently being kept under wraps, but it's said to feature every single variation of the Daleks from every era of the show so far. The Daleks have not been seen since the finale of Series 5, where they teamed up with various Doctor Who villains in order to seal The Doctor in the Pandorica. "Asylum of the Daleks" will screen at BFI Southbank on August 14th and at the MediaGuardian Edinburgh International Television Festival from August 23rd-25th.

A 90 second trailer for the premiere will hit online tomorrow.
