While there's still a month until the Season 8 premiere, How I Met Your Mother has been under a truly watchful eye during its hiatus. The hit comedy is not only in negotiations to possibly extend its run to a ninth season already, but it has also decided to task itself with bringing back a number of familiar faces as guest stars. With two returning males already set to return, there's no telling just how deep into the series' history the writers will be dipping into for the upcoming slate of episodes. Now arguably the most comedic role on Breaking Bad is making a comeback as his recurring character and joins the list of returning stars.
TV Line reports that Bob Odenkirk will be back as lawyer Arthur Hobbs in the next season of How I Met Your Mother. Hobbs is the twice-former boss of Jason Segel's Marshall over at Goliath National Bank and co-worker for Neil Patrick Harris' Barney, though Arthur has not been seen since a Season 6 reappearance.
This time, around Arthur will be returning in order to somewhat represent Barney in the man's pre-nup agreements with fiancee Quinn in the season's second episode. Seeing how it enters the October realm that co-creator Craig Thomas has deemed "break-up month", there's a good chance that what occurs here could ultimately affect the couple's future together.
Odenkirk joins fellow returning guest stars Joe Manganiello and Michael Trucco who will also be returning in Season 8. Manganiello will appear in two episodes for the first half of the season as Marshall's law school buddy Brad, while Trucco will emerge again for an undetermined amount of time as Robin's long time crush and potential love interest. All three men join the also returning Ashley Williams, who will continue her guest stint as Ted's ex-girlfriend Victoria continuing her storyline from the season finale.
How I Met Your Mother returns September 24th at 8PM only on CBS.
