THE NEWS BUNDLE: Patrick St. Esprit Cast in 'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire' As Peacekeeper Romulus Thread

Donald Sutherland set up the major villain role of The Hunger Games saga President Snow in a huge way this past year with the first film teasing that there was obviously some major issues to stem from the character in subsequent sequels. And while he will be returning in the next movie Catching Fire, there still needs to be some forces working against our Girl on Fire as she gets ready to enter the arena one more time. One thing introduced in the first installment were the Robocop-looking Peacekeepers who kept various district members in line under The Capitol's rule. Now, one actor has joined the sequel as a major Peacekeeper who will look to actually lay his hands on Katniss Everdeen.

Variety reports that Patrick St. Esprit has joined The Hunger Games: Catching Fire as Romulus Thread, the head Peacekeeper of District 12. St. Esprit is best known for his roles in Sons of Anarchy, Super 8, United 93, and has even ventured into a law-enforcing environment with police characters in NCIS: Los Angeles and Rizzoli & Isles.

In the novels, Thread only appears in Catching Fire but has a major influence not only on Katniss but also the entire District 12. In one scene, he goes as far as to beat Gale (Liam Hemsworth) unconscious and it's after this public display that the status quo in Katniss' home is shaken to its core. New rules come into effect that threaten her way of peace in hunting outside of the gates in the forest, and Thread proves to be fiercely loyal to The Capitol. It's unclear if he'll have a bigger role in the film adaptation like Seneca Crane, but for right now St. Esprit is set to only have the same impact as the source material dictates.

Lionsgate has yet to officially announce St. Esprit's casting.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a "Victor's Tour" of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) - a competition that could change Panem forever.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire will be directed by Francis Lawrence, and produced by Nina Jacobson’s Color Force in tandem with producer Jon Kilik. The novel on which the film is based is the second in a trilogy that has sold more than 50 million books in print and digital in the U.S. alone.

Starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Hemsworth, Sutherland, Jena Malone, Lynn Cohen, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Lenny Kravitz, Amanda Plummer, Willow Shields, Stanley Tucci, Toby Jones and more, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is set for release on November 22nd, 2013.
