If there was one surprise smash that did exceptional for ABC, it was the network getting back into the soap-drama genre with their hit Revenge. What was a small success turned into an overnight phenomenon over the course of the season with a murder mystery, addictive story elements, and a cast of characters to absolutely fall in love with.
The only problem? Revenge wasn't as strong at times on Wednesdays as ABC would have liked in terms of demographics. Still, the freshman season of the series came up averaging a very strong 7.8 million and the network hopes fans will stick around as the series goes head to head against The Good Wife in Desperate Housewives' old Sunday slot.
Today the promotion for Emily Thorne's return kicks off as we find our lead character back in that same thorn dress from last year for the new season, while letting it known that though its a new night there's plenty of backstabbing and plotting to look forward to.
Among big moves this second season will bring, the year will kick off with yet another flash-forward moment that will hopefully leave viewers trying to piece the ultimate puzzle yet again following last year's engagement party shootout. But the first arc will find Emily trying to find her mother, who was revealed to be alive and kicking after all in the final moments of Season 1.
Meanwhile, there are plenty of new characters to look forward to as well. Greek star Padma Vadsaria will be joining the show as a major employee and genius at Nolan's corporation, portraying a possible love interest for our resident sidekick. Barry Sloane will be playing a mystery man from Emily's past, while Jennifer Jason Leigh will be playing Emily's long lost and previously-thought-deceased mother.
Margarita Levieva has also signed on to reprise her role as Fauxmanda for at least 10 of the season's first 14 episodes, who will be very pregnant once we return to a summer in The Hamptons. And still looking to be cast, Conrad's Grayson family before he married the manipulative Victoria are set to be unveiled and be new players in this ongoing chess match. As for what else is in store...well, that's part of the fun isn't it?
Revenge returns Sunday September 30th at 9PM on ABC.
