Though many believed the sequel may never happen, the superhero sequel has officially become a reality as Kick-Ass 2 has begun filming after a fast track pre-production earlier this summer. While our favorite heroes have yet to don the costumes once more, there have been a number of big names who have joined the second installment in various roles. One of the more important characters of the continuation is Red Mist's right-hand woman Mother Russia, which was revealed earlier this week to be bodybuilder Olga Kurkulina flexing her muscle. Now today, we receive our first look at the actress as she has been snapped on-set in full costume which presents a new look to the strong female of the comics.
Though she looks drastically different than her comic book incarnation, we do see Kurkulina on set seemingly in an action pose for the time being. She's lacking any type of tattoos that we can see of and her costume has certainly changed, though at least the eyepatch is still in tact.
As for what scene they are filming, we know that principal photography is currently within a suburban neighborhood, hinting that it may be the extremely blood-filled and memorable event from the fourth issue of the series. We'll keep quiet on any spoilers regarding said scene, but trust me when I say that should it follow the comics expect for quite a shocking affair that hits home for the titular hero.
Original director Matthew Vaughn will be returning in a producing capacity as he has hand-picked new helmer Wadlow for the second film, while the two also co-wrote the script, which the returning cast has so far gushed over without giving many details.
Kick-Ass 2 is currently set for release on June 28th 2013.
