As LOST alumni fill Storybrooke on Once Upon a Time, it's Emilie de Ravin that has certainly received the warmest welcome this year as her one-off guest role as Belle turned into a series regular gig by the time the second season began its planning. And while Alan Dale may be sticking around to wreak some havoc of his own (as hinted in Sunday's episode), there's one star that has yet to make his appearance just yet: Jorge Garcia. The gentle giant known for exclaiming "dude" and worrying about the numbers will be transformed into a more menacing giant with a fairy tale past. Today, we get our first look at Garcia as he is transformed into a creature six times the height of any normal character.
Set to first appear in the November 4th episode, TV Guide premiered the first photo of Garcia as he is surrounded by green screen for his upcoming role as "The Giant". In an interesting tidbit, the character won't be tackling his famous past with Jack and the Beanstalk but will instead be playing an important part in the Enchanted Forest's future. It's revealed that Captain Hook may not be as trapped in Storybrooke with a flashback tale as we think, with the story of the upcoming outing revealed to feature Emma and Hook journeying to The Giant's lair in order to retrieve an item that is currently under wraps. But perhaps the biggest question this brings up is exactly how Hook winds up in the Enchanted Forest. We've seen the character breaking into Gold's Pawn Shop to retrieve his hand-accessory in Storybrooke while it's been hinted that first mate Smee will be kidnapping Belle. But could Hook be the one character who has discovered a portal between worlds?!
Meanwhile, Garcia says that his characters is "a dangerous, angry guy," but says he was a blast to play. He even complements that The Giant has "the coolest, most extravagant costume I've ever worn. There's definitely an Eastern influence to it, with a corset-style belt and a lot of bangle things that jingled when I walked."
Currently, Garcia is only set to appear in the one outing but given his ties to the series' creators and showrunner along with Once Upon a Time's love for recurring roles, there's a good chance we may not see the last of him on November 4th.
Once Upon a Time airs every Sunday at 8PM on ABC.
