Jason Statham certainly isn't a stranger to numerous sequels in the action genre. After multiple installments of Crank (with a third in the works with movement yet) and the series that really launched his career The Transporter, Statham recently returned at the right hand of Sylvester Stallone in The Expendables 2. Now at the start of AFM, it's been revealed the actor has two more projects incoming as not only will he team back up with some of the greatest action stars ever known but he'll be returning as an assassin in one of his most recent cinematic roles.
Collider is roaming around the American Film Market and have posted this image from Millennium Films that confirms not only will The Expendables 3 be coming but a sequel to 2011's The Mechanic is on it's way:
Not only did Statham star in both films, which he's expected to do once more for each sequel, but they were both directed by Simon West. There is no word yet on whether or not West will return for either, but it's certainly an option if anything.
The Mechanic, co-starring Ben Foster and Donald Sutherland, barely made back its budget at the box office with a $60 million gross over the $50 million production cost. The Expendables 2, meanwhile, has been in the works since earlier this year as rumors surfaced and has always been envisioned beyond the second installment. The sequel managed to seal the deal by grossing nearly $300 million worldwide compared to its $100 million budget.
No production starts or releases have been set, as both projects are in very early development. But we'll bring you more in the future.
