THE NEWS BUNDLE: Nickelodeon To Air Sixth Season of 'Digimon' Franchise in 2013, Will Serve As Reboot for the Series

Late last year, word had it that the sixth season of the decade-long franchise Digimon would be making its way into international waters. The newest incarnation Digimon: Xros Wars has become famous out of Japan due to its union of multiple veteran faces in one of the season's final episodes. But with Saban reacquiring the series for the first time since its early days, exactly what this meant for domestic audiences had yet to be determined.

Previously airing on FOX, UPN and even Toon Disney, now it's been revealed that the famous cartoon series will be making its return later this year to the network currently in control of Saban's Power Rangers and most recently rebooted the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to much acclaim.

Saban Brands announced today its new animated series, Digimon Fusion, will air on Nickelodeon in 2013. Digimon Fusion is the sixth installment of the hugely successful Digimon franchise, which Saban Brands re-acquired in 2012. Unleashing countless Digimon combinations, Digimon Fusion takes today’s tech-savvy kids inside an adventure-packed digital world, where the heroes’ courage is matched only by the fusion of their teamwork, loyalty and humor.

“Digimon is the longest-running Japanese anime property and has been enjoyed by kids for more than a decade,” said Elie Dekel , President of Saban Brands . “We’re thrilled to be bringing the all-new Digimon Fusion TV series to Nickelodeon, where we have the opportunity to introduce the series to a new generation of children while still engaging long-time fans.”

The series features all-new Digimon action and excitement following Mikey, a human boy, who is transported into the digital realm and must team up with his new “Digimon” or “Digital Monster” friends before their world is deleted once and for all. New fusion powers allow Digimon to combine and fuse their abilities to create endless battle possibilities. Tap into the excitement of Digimon Fusion later this year on Nickelodeon.

Digimon Fusion will be distributed internationally (outside of Asia) by MarVista Entertainment.

Airing since 2000, the animated series has been a competitor to Pokemon over the years and originally aired its first three seasons on the now-defunct FOX Kids. Its fourth season moved the series to early mornings on UPN in 2002 before it re-aired as a part of Disney's Jetix. The fifth season aired five years later in 2007 on Jetix, where it retired in 2008 and was the last known appearance of the franchise in the U.S. since.

No premiere date has yet been decided for Digimon Fusion, but we'll keep you updated in the months ahead.
